About Me

Dr. Yunus Gul obtained his primary medical qualification, MB BCh, BAO, LRCPS & I, in 1990 from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He was one of 10 candidates selected to undergo the structured Pre-Fellowship Surgical Training Programme in Dublin, which he completed in 1994 after passing the surgical Fellowship (FRCS) examinations. 
 
Dr. Yunus then moved to the United Kingdom for his postgraduate surgical specialty training in general, minimally invasive  and gastrointestinal surgery, which he completed in London on the St. Mary’s, Hammersmith & Associated Hospitals Specialist Surgical Rotation. He obtained his Surgical Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (United Kingdom & Ireland) in 1999. 
 
He returned to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the end of 1999 and was employed in University Putra Malaysia as a Consultant General & Gastrointestinal Surgeon.  Dr. Yunus was subsequently the Head of the Department of Surgery from 2001 to 2007 and he was promoted to the chair of Professor of Surgery in June 2003.  
 
His main specialty interest is in Colorectal, Gastrointestinal and Minimally Invasive (Laparoscopic) Surgery.  He has published extensively in the field of gastrointestinal and general surgery including writing a few book chapters.  His current practice in Prince Court Medical Centre encompasses General and both Upper and Lower Gastrointestinal Surgery.  The majority of surgical procedures that he performs are via Minimally Invasive or Laparoscopic Surgery.  Dr. Yunus is also currently the Director of Surgical Services at Prince Court Medical Centre. 
 
Datuk Dr. Yunus is a member of numerous National and International Surgical Societies where he has been invited to present updates in the management of various surgical conditions. He is the current President of the Asean Society of Colorectal Surgeons, Vice president of the Society of Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons in Malaysia and was the Past President of the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons and Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
