About Me

 

Dr Chow is currently Consultant Nephrologist and Physician in Hospital Pantai Ayer Keroh, Melaka. His last appointment was as Consultant Nephrologist and Physician in Sultanah Aminah Hospital, Johor Bahru.

He graduated in 1999 with Doctor of Medicine (MD) from University of Science Malaysia. In 2003, he obtained his membership into the Royal College of Physicians of United Kingdom after his training in internal medicine from the New Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr Chow then pursued a 3 year Nephrology Fellowship Programme (Ministry of Health, Malaysia) in Sultanah Aminah Hospital Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur Hospital in 2005.

Upon completion of his nephrology subspeciality training, he attended the Malaysian Nephrology Board Examination conducted by the Nephrology Board of Malaysia (Malaysian Society of Nephrology, Ministry of Health Malaysia, Academy of Medicine, Malaysia) in which he was then nominated best nephrology fellow among the 2008 candidates and was the sole recipient of the Dato Dr Zaki Morad award.

He was subsequently offered a full scholarship by the Public Services Department of Malaysia to pursue advance nephrology training in the field of vasculitis in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He then worked as a Clinical Fellow of Nephrology with Dr David Jayne, world-renowned experts in autoimmune diseases. Dr Chow received training in all aspects of vasculitis and glomerulonephritides with particular emphasis on clinical evaluation of newer immunotherapeutics in vasculitis, lupus and immune-mediated renal disease.

Dr Chow is active in clinical research. He has published/presented more than 20 research topics on various aspects of nephrology in both local and international journals/conferences. His latest involvement was in the use of Alemtuzumab (CAMPATH 1-H) as remission induction therapy in Behcet’s Disease being presented in the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting in 2010 and the novel method of switching anti-TNF agents in Behcet’s Disease being accepted for publication in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology in August 2012.  He has also been recently appointed expert panel of the Malaysian Dialysis and Transplantation registry.

In April 2012, he has been conferred the Fellowship of College of Physicians of Edinburgh, United Kingdom for his contributions to development of nephrology and internal medicine in Malaysia.
